David Brent Competition Submission

on Oct 10, 2013

In the autumn of 2013, Ricky Gervais announced a David Brent contest where it was required to write two subsequent versus to his song – Spaceman Came Down. These are my versus.

Spaceman went up as fast as he had come down,

Spreading the word to his friends in a crown

As they looked up at him his smile turned to stale,

Robotic dogs all were wagging their tail.

He looked back down toward earth’s crested plates,

His eyes turning sad he was back up in space

But then he considered his purpose was served,

He spoke to the earthlings, something they had deserved.

And before he could think without further ado,

The spaceship was off leaving Earth’s satin blue

He picked up his gear and slowly trekked back inside,

A smile faintly returned with a twitch on one side.

Brent his friends called – we’re having a toast,

To the bravest spaceman this ship ever did host.

That night as he snuggled back into his suit,

He knew he reclaimed the missing past of his youth

And for once he had felt a genuine shine,

Calmly drifting to sleep in the wake of no time.
